The NAND flash memory shortage is affecting many different manufacturers and their products.
The $122 billion memory chip industry has enjoyed an unprecedented boom since mid-2016, expanding nearly 70% in 2017 alone thanks to the growth of smartphones and cloud services that require more powerful chips that can store more data. Apple and Samsung used the bulk of available flash memory for their phones, leading to shortages that affect a number of devices.
NAND flash and other embedded non-volatile solid-state memories will be a significant driver for IoT and other applications depending upon network edge connections as well as serving as primary storage for the Cloud.

These technologies will drive the development of automobile ADAS and autonomous vehicles as well as infotainment. They will also drive the growth of cloud primary storage, connected automated manufacturing and the devices we use every day.

Last year’s growth gave chipmakers the funds to reinvest and boost output. The supply of NAND flash memory chips will grow 43% this year, up from last year’s 34%, it's estimated that this will cause prices to drop by about 10%. 2017's Global NOR Flash Memory Market top players were Winbond, Micron, Macronix, Cypress and Samsung.
