Prototype Driverless Cars
At the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, engineers have built two versions of a self-driving car. These are the Eurecar (pronounced Eureka) and the second generation Eurecar Turbo. To enable the self-driving mechanism, Eurecar has the following equipment in place: a high precision positioning system, 7 laser scanners, 4 cameras, and a GPS unit. The system is powered using a Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA.
The cars use a local map which has both 'real' and 'imaginary' scenarios. Various situations such as traffic signal changes, pedestrian detection, and other obstacles are recorded, and the relevant response mechanisms are programmed in as algorithms.
Train Tracking and Monitoring
Virtex 5 FPGA are also being used to maintain operations on the London Underground. The tracks were recently replaced in an 8 year, £1 billion investment program. The new track uses 385 JTCs (jointless track circuits) that track and monitor train position along the tracks. The controller is equipped with a Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA - this provides the control with real-time input to make sure that the system is operating smoothly.
You can buy Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA from EarthTron.
EarthTron is a Xilinx distributor. EarthTron is a reliable source for both Altera and Xilinx FPGA. Our Xilinx FPGA are sourced from OEM surplus. At EarthTron, we have a strict quality control program in place, and we are ISO-compliant.
Or search our inventory list to find more Virtex 5. If you don't see what you are looking for, send us a RFQ anyway. We guarantee at least 15% off list prices.
One example of a Xilinx Virtex 5 part we have in stock is XC5VFX100T-2FFG1136I. The list price is $3,565, but EarthTron has this FPGA in stock at $1,700. Volume discounts are available.
